Replacement distributor cap issues

Hey all, replaced the distributor cap on my stock duraspark unit as a point of maintenance while swapping intakes on the 400. Had a severe engine cut out issue that was resolved by putting the old cap back on. Checked the new Taylor made in USA cap # 948224, which summit says is correct, and the contacts inside are about half length of my old one.

summit confirmed this is the right cap and sent me another with the exact same problem. Is this a later TFI cap or what? Is there a taller rotor I can use?

Looks like the point of spark is the same from the top down.

The only IGN PARTS for normal street use are MOTORCRAFT, period.

Obviously, TAYLOR (once a quality part) has lost quality control.

Does it say COUNTRY of Origin?

motorcraft

I learned this the hard way.... Like stated above, hunt down motorcraft oem replacement parts, hell I even bought a dizzy cap from 70's production I found NOS online, same goes for the ignition box.... Some stuff you can get away with aftermarket brands...ignition parts are a no no.... IMO...

I wonder if the TAYLOR rotor is specific to the cap ...

Post NOTE-

Do you see the black carbon buildup at the towers and inside the cap itself

The wire boots should have a light film of dialectic grease applied at both boot ends to prevent possible spark escape, especially on an application w/ a lean fuel mixture (emissions correct). A very slight bead should also be applied to the rotor tip to prevent spark walk and misfire.

Picked up a new borg Warner cap and rotor at oreillys, here's the comparison. You wouldn't think 1/8" would make that much difference but apparently it does. May be ok on a stock motor with 7.8 to 1 compression or whatever they had but on 10:1 + compression anything over half throttle and it would fall on its face

I did see that and always apply dielectric grease. This cap has been on bruce for the 5 years and 10,000+ miles I've owned him, who knows how long before that
