Distributor cap adapter??

I see Auto Zone quit carrying my Wells cap and rotor for my '83 300. They only carry a $26 Duralast cap with brass inserts. No thanks. They do offer a cap adapter. What's that all about?

Your cap must be in two parts. A short part that houses the spark plug terminals (actual cap) and a longer part that goes between the cap and the base of the distributor.

Yea, I guess so. The top part for the plug wires is quite shallow. The other part you're talking about, I guess that's the adapter. Don't see why anybody would need to replace that. I always thought the distributor was molded right up to the top cap. Learn something every day...even after 24 years.

If it breaks from old age or bad conditions, it's nice to have replacement parts.
