Recently bought an 03 supercrew with the 5.4.
It had a misfire issue in cylinder 3. Removed the coil and saw the boot was on backwards. Put it on the correct way and put the coil back in. Fixed the misfire for about a month. Misfiring again, read that the electrical plugs sometimes break so i went to check. Found that cylinder 1 and 3 coils were loose. Question 1, would that cause a misfire? I went to tighten and neither of screws would get tight, but they both will unscrew out and screw in but wont tighten. Question 2, how do i fix this? Or if someone could post a link to where i can find out, i tried searching
I would remove the coil and look at the threaded hole. Is there an insert that is spinning in the plastic, or are the threads in the plastic pulled out ? You could epoxy a stud into the hole that stuck up a half inch above the coil flange and then use a nut to tighten , if the plastic is stripped out.
Doesn't look like anything is spinning, seems as the screw just screws into the plastic bracket or whatever, the plastic threads did actually come out. Would a wider screw work, if it was shorter?
if the screw is small enough diameter to slide thru the COP bracket, that would work... OR just epoxy a stud in the hole with a nut on top. You can cut the head off a 2 1/2 inch long #10 screw and use it as a stud.
