Lifter preload question

Hi guys, I am in the process of installing my valve train on 96 5.8 f150. GT40 heads, scorpion roller pedestal rockers, and new ford racing roller lifters. I am a little confused on lifter preload. I have heard 1/2-1 turn, 1/4-3/4, and 1/4-1 turn after zero lash. Right now I am consistently from about the 5 oclock to 7 oclock position. Am I in the ballpark?

Ford Racing says 1/4 to 1 turn from zero lash to reach 18-22 lb-ft is correct.

I've always disliked the "crudeness" of the turn to lash procedures.

Ford specs the preload to be .02-.06 iirc. I always set mine between .035-.04, measured between the lifter retainer and cup, or dial indicator at the rocker. More precise, more consistent.

GoinBoarding, any chance you could send me pics of that instruction sheet? Picked up used 1.7 cranes recently and don't have any paperwork yet. To be honest I haven't looked. This thread caught my eye on the way down is all.
