Personally I don't like them. I do not want to drill four holes in my running boards. I think it is better to repaint (or paint with a thin bedliner) than to drill holes in your running boards to prevent some scuffs.
I really don't like the gear and lightning bolt step plate on 48-52 trucks as that logo didn't come out until 1953.
But if you got 'em and like 'em on your truck, well that's all that matters!
John,
I know I have a set of "Ford" step plates hanging on the wall somewhere. I don't think they have the lightning bolt symbol, I think they just say Ford in the middle.
I picked them up years ago at a swap meet but decided they weren't right for my truck.
When I get home from work tomorrow I'll try to snap a pic
Bobby
Personally I think a person should do whatever they think will look or work best for them . We used rocker coating on the running boards ,no scratches and it looks okay with the black fenders
When mounting step plates to the running board, I found Dennis Carpenter running boards stamped from "original Ford tooling" to have different heights on the length wise ribs. This caused the flat plates to rock on the highest rib. The use of small nylon washers was necessary to keep the plate from rocking. Lay a small level across the ribs to check plump against the flat step plates.
I agree with oldmerc....there is no right or wrong. I have the older script style on mine and like them and even have a brand new set that I double ordered back when I had a 2 year lapse in the restoration due to a broken back and forgot that I had already purchased them!
