I have had an Edge tuner on it for 5 or 6 years now , always set to tow mode, 60 hp and 100ft lbs . My egt's have been good, the first year I had it they were higher than I liked on a long pull so I removed the cat and it dropped 200degrees on the same run and it was before I had a tuner. Truck gave me no warning at all, I had my 30ft gooseneck on empty going up hill and then the smoke show out the pipe started. It cracked that one bad and #5 also has some cracks forming. Nothing has else has ever been done to the motor, always a faithful 7.3 .

Canned tunes, that was the cause of your engine taking a dirt nap, im hoping your going to get rid of the Edge tuner ASAP.

The tops of those pistons are awful clean...especially for a diesel with that many miles.

That's a pretty serious blanket statement.

Well I finally got around to putting the motor in the truck .Got her fired up today and all seems good, no big issues or codes . Had the trans overhauled and rebuilt the turbo because of all the oil that was forced through it when the piston went to hell. My only issue is long starts after sitting a couple minutes It starts up right away if you restart it right after shutting it down but if you wait a minute it take a while to start. I am guessing the IPR valve is my issue as it is the same trouble I had with my 6.0 truck right after I rebuilt the motor. So any thoughts guys. ?

Glad you got it running. Just drive it a bit and see if the starts get better. You could check HPOP reservoir when it sets to see if it's full. Should be within 1/2" or so from the top.

I checked it before I dropped it in, I changed all the O rings on the HP oil lines so I figured it was low but it was still full. It took a while to start in the van but it had a bad GPR and crap for a battery so I figured it was just that. I have the IPR valve from the old motor so I may swap it over but I also read they had air issues and after having all the lines off it would certainly have air in the oil system .

The air in the system is why it has to be drive. Very speed up and down and get some miles on it. After 30 to 50 miles if you still have the problem dig deeper.
