Duraspark Module DY893?

Hello Everyone.

Need some help. I have a 1983 mustang with Duraspark 2 ignition issues.

My factory module was P/N D8VE 12A199 A2C. I was having ignition shut down issues and replaced my factory module with P/N DY893. I thought it would match but when I go to start my car it barely turns over with the new module, fires over no problem with the factory module. Does anyone no if this P/N does not match?

Don't know the numbers, just the color of the plastic where the wires go in. Blue is supposed to be the generic no frills module that fits many different models. They have yellow, brown and others that have different special features for certain applications.

Thanks for the reply, its the blue grommit like my factory box. I think its timing related, like this new box doesnt retard the timing at all on crank. Car runs great once it starts, just seems to really struggle to start as in crank power.

It is GENUINE MOTORCRAFT, correct?

The START retard function must not be working as the old module allows easy start. How far do you have initial timing advanced over stock?

2 Degrees over stock. When I purchased it the ad stated it was a genuine Motorcraft Part. Nothing on the module actually says Motorcraft though so I cant confirm. I might claim defective and get another one. I just want to make sure that its in fact a compatible replacement to my factory one.

If it isn't in a factory box and there is no I.D. on the module, it is most likely CHI-COM.

Check pricing on AMAZON.

As long as it is FORD and has the blue strain relief, it should be the correct one.

I have heard some of the aftermarket boxes do not have the start retard feature. If it was a Motorcraft box it would say so on it. Best place to get a Motorcraft box is the junkyard.
