Anybody know how my 2017 F-350 with push button start got opened last night with absolutely NO visible damage ? And yes it was locked
I have read that if you have the proximity unlock... so when you approach the truck with your fob and touch the front handle it will unlock, that some thieves have what they call a booster that can grab the signal from your fob inside your home and make the vehicle think it is within 3 feet of the truck. Then all they have to do it touch the handle. The only way to keep this from happening is to place the fob in a Faraday box which blocks your fobs signal. It can be as simple as placing the fob in a metal box while you're home.
Several years ago my 2009 sd was broken into. Couldn't find any damage till next day. Underneath the drivers door handle, the crook had used a punch or sharp screwdriver to put a hole in door and pry latch open. Police guy said he got in quicker than I could with a key
Had a 2008 F350 Lariat that I left parked outside a local restaurant. Went inside to eat and 45 minutes later came out and knew something was not right. The perp used a ...I do not want to enable the crooks on here to gain access into my truck. PM me if you want the details. They stole a SW Sig 380 pistol, radar detector, company check book, credit cards, several pair of Oakley's and who knows what else, The manager from a check cashing place called me about an hour later with someone trying to cash a check. Dallas PD arrested the thug and find out he is on parole for felony forgery. Never got anything back but never dine in the I-35/Northwest highway area of Dallas. Thug is probably still on the street,
Within the last month, one of my clients had a 2016 KR Expedition. Within 30 minutes of him parking in his parking garage in north Dallas (Hillcrest/LBJ) they deciphered his code, started and stole his vehicle. A couple of weeks later the Dallas PD found it with $8K damage. He got it fixed and traded it immediately on a 2018 Platinum Expy. Good for him and good for Ford Motor Company.
I could share a couple of other stories but I want to wait until I catch one of these SOB's in the wrong place at the wrong time so I can exercise my second amendment right. Let's all Make America America Again!
Perhaps I can provide some insight as to how some Law Enforcement agencies handle vehicle break-ins. Everyone is right when they say that if a thief wants inside your vehicle that they will get in. The problem that the LEO faces is that there is usually absolutely nothing to go on if the owner or complainant doesn't have any suspect info. With textured plastic handles and interiors there are no good surfaces to lift prints from. If the exterior of the vehicle is dirty or wet then its very difficult to lift prints from as well. My best bet is to ask the owner or neighbors if they have any security cameras that cover where the car was parked. Even then, unless they have a decent security camera system, the image is grainy and hard to use for an exact suspect match, doesn't mean we can't try but it doesn't always work. So if there's no witnesses or no cameras and no surfaces to lift prints from then I really don't have anywhere to go with the investigation.
I worked for a decent sized city before going reserve and choosing another career path, so we had a burglary division that would parse through the reports and look for patterns. They had the time to investigate further. So those who's report was handled over the phone were probably asked if they had that stuff above. If not then the report us usually taken over the phone. Unfortunately, if arrests were made, the owners seldom heard about it unless a specific item was recovered and linked to the original owners.
Believe me, I feel your pain. My old Dakota was broken into three times while I had it, one of witch was in the police department parking lot. They broke the window and stole the radio. My wife's Fusion was broken into but we had cameras that caught them going into our car and others next door. Sadly, laser guided miniguns aren't an option yet.
