I've done some searching on here and picked up some pointers however i can't seem to find what i need to know about dissassembly. I want to get the window and frame out from the outer frame if possible. I took the nut, washer, and spring off the bottom of the pivot however i can't seem to figure out how to get the rest of it off...or should i even try? Here is a pic of where i'm at. I was going to tackle taking the glass out of the channel and cleaning it all up, dusting it with black and get ready for glass reinstall. Should i be trying to take this pivot assembly apart? It looks pressed in to me and the oblong washer can't be removed without removing the rivets. Maybe i just need to clean it up as is and leave well enough alone?
It's just rusted together. Will require some heat or force to get those washers off the square shaft. Try tapping on them with a hammer and punch.
It does need to come apart to install the new rubber correctly.
Of course, this goes without saying... Be careful that you do not break off the pivot where it enters the glass frame. This must be a weak point. I have two vents, one 53-55 and one 61-66, with perfectly good original glass with the FoMoCo name and logo in teh corner but they both have the pivot broken off.
When I did mine, before I tried disassembling the pivot, I sandblasted the lower end of the pivot stud to remove all the rust... this makes it easier to remove the stud once you finally get it to start moving. I then soaked it in a good penetrating oil (Kroil). I threaded a nut partially onto the stud to protect the end of the stud and began tapping it with a hammer. DO NOT HIT IT HARD! Just solid taps.... stop every few minutes and apply more oil... then tap some more.
It took a while, but eventually I got both of them free, with no damage to anything.
I can't tell from the pics, but have you removed the upper pivot? It has to be removed before disassembling the lower pivot.
Looking for some advice from someone that's been down this road. I have everything needed to rebuild my vent windows so i'm proceeding with that. Most of my other components (division bar and window lift channel are in good shape metal wise but if i'm understanding it correctly i would need to replace the rubber vent seal to the upper part of the channel and the felt on the other side of the division bar channel. The new one's look to have rivets with them which doesn't appear to be much fun and i'm wondering if it just makes more sense to order the entire (anti rattle kit) from someplace like LMC or wherever. I'm assuming that the division bars that comes in the $199 kit would have both pieces already installed saving me some aggravation. But then again some of the quality of the "new" stuff is a bit off the mark.
Is your 50 a standard cab or the 5 Star extra (or whatever the deluxe models were called in 1950)? In 53 to 56 trucks the division bars were painted black in the Standard Cabs and were bright metal (as they were called in the period Ford publications).
I plan on painting my 55 F350 this winter. It is a Standard Cab. So I have been looking myself for these related parts. My division bars are in good shape. They just need painted. All the antirattler kits I see have stainless division bars. My 55 is a standard cab and I do not want a shiny division bar.
All the antirattler kits I see whether they be from MidFifty, classic haulers, Mid West, or Carpenter, have a stainless division bar. They do not sell just the fuzzy glass run that goes in the division bar. Well I found a place that sells just the glass run. It is Restoration Specialties in Windber, PA. Use this link: Window Channel - Page 6 - Restoration Specialties and Supply, Inc.. It is the page that has the glass run on it. I ordered 6 feet and am awaiting it to arrive. I will have to rivet it in place and also attach the rubber vent seal to the other side of the bar. I did this to my 54 in 1999. It was easy. If I can do it anyone can.
So it depends if you want stainless or black division bars.
Abe, my cab is the plain Jane with painted division bars. As far as i know there wasn't a deluxe in 48-50 however that changed in 51-52 so perhaps they are all shiny. I'll call a couple places tomorrow and see what they say, otherwise i'll end up doing it myself with the link you provided. Price wise the "kit" makes sense but if it's only chromed division bars then that won't work for me. BTW, i scored a nice set of "teeth" for my 53 grille. I got all 6 NOS in boxes for $70. Yes there are still deals out there if you stumble across them.
Just used the anti-rattle kits and vent window seals from Steele Rubber on another build. Everything fit well. The preformed parts were correct and the clips were dead matches for the originals. So they fit!
When I reinstalled the glass in the frames on my 52 I think I must have pushed the glass too far into the frames. Don't do that..
There is quite a gap between the glass and division bar..
So I get to take it apart try to pull the glass back out little bit.

Were they black/plain steel or chromed/shiny?
I ordered from Dennis Carpenter but now i need to call them and ask before they process the order
Thanks for the info. Are the division bars plain or chromed/polished SS ?
Restoration Specialties has the kit listed as well however i called them and the division bars are SS.

Bill, I just called Restoration specialties to see where my order was. He said it will be another week. They have an employee in the hospital and they are backed up.
Anyhow I asked him about their division bars, painted or stainless.? He said they don't sell them and they call them window separaters. So maybe they meant their glass runs have a stainless bead on them, which I think they did originally. It makes sense that they don't carry division bars as they don't specialize in Ford or any other brand parts, just Restoration things that are common to all makes.
