I removed mine with impact and torqued to 70ft lb. I didnt end up drilling and tapping the hole bigger. I used the bolt and washer that came with it without issue so far. If it seems to lose tension I'll consider it.

I cut my shim down with a grinder and cutoff wheel but had to stick it on the surface grinder. I thought I had it good but the pulley showed otherwise.

sorry to highjack your thread a little. But I did this swap and now my belt squeals at higher rpms. Ive tightened it and everything looks like its lined up but it just seem like the pulley doesn't have much bite on the belt. Any suggestions? Thanks!!

I did the 3g conversion and with a single pulley and mine doesn't squeal at all. Luck of the draw? Later, Shortbox4x4

Thanks bud I must have just overlooked that. Did you have to change the crank pulley or anything? or were the OD the same on both grooves?

So, the issue as it turns out with this alt version, is its casing depth. It won't fit between the block and the bracket. If you look at a 90-95 Taurus version Alt, it appears to be not as deep.

Mine squealed at startup, so I put a delay on it. It still squealed under hard throttle, so I got a slightly bigger pulley. It still squeals a little, but I can live with it.

Most of the later, more powerful alternators I've swapped in have been deeper and I haven't had trouble with them fitting. They're just tighter up against the head is all (at least the ones I've used) and still fit.
Sometimes you need a spacer of a different length, but sometimes you don't.

Is the lower alternator in your pic the original one from your truck? Do you have pics of your brackets?

Oh, and does it physically fit, but the output stud hits the head? Or is it just not fitting at all?

If it's just the stud then you can get the style of extension that Ford used on some applications that puts the stud out at a 90 to the back, sticking out the side.
It's actually a nice setup for anyone. Makes it easier to get to the main charge wire/cable without removing the alternator.

I don't know if mines original, it's just what came with it. I have a Camper Special and the alternator is the smaller of the two options available, which seems odd.

well, forget my post #21. As luck would have it, I was just being a moron. It's amazing just how stupid we can be at times.

Some people said they had trouble bending fan blades torquing the pulley back on. I stuck bolts in each of the holes that I could and had no issues.

Im using a double groove pulley with a single belt on my 130A and so far no issues. I did ruin the first belt but it was because of poor alignment.
The 3G doesn't use the external fan. If you don't have a good impact, take it to someone who does. Doing it with hand tools is difficult.

The wire colors are different on my Alt. The Alt plug has a:
larger Orange/Light Blue wire,
White/Black (that plugs back into the Alt. not pictured),
and a Light Green/Red wire

my regulator has the F, S and A wires, but no I.

I'm fairly sure the larger Orange/Light Blue (yellow in some applications?) wire goes to B+ on the solenoid from the Alt. connector.
Does the Light Green/Red wire connect to the same color wire in the two plug connector from the cab ( which also has the White/Black wire that went to the old Alt)?

I know and I have a good impact. I did my swap weeks ago been done.

I did not use the impact putting my double groove pulley back on just because it makes things too tight too quick. I was just saying how I avoided bending the fan blades torquing it back on.

But why did you put the fan blades on the 3G?
