Ok, contacted SCT today about tune for my truck... Their stock tunes don't go up to my tire size? He said I would need to get a custom tune. He says not having that in there would effect performance. So, where to buy? How much we talkin? And, is it going to make my truck smoke like a coal train? I hope not! But, that might be a trade off. I don't want to race anybody, just tow my toyhauler from time to time. I have 37" tires on the Sub. 325/65R18 Goodyear Duratracks.
Gearhead is the best way to go on tunes. I've run them all and only Matt makes these things run like they should without the risk of blowing something up.
He writes two good tow tunes:
8K tow- you can tow up to 13K with this if you're studded.
Unlimited tow- Just as the name implies, it's a modified shift strategy with stock power.
The guys on his team can email them to you. With how Matt does his tunes, unless you have injector or turbo issues, your truck won't belch smoke everywhere.
As for your tire size, you can adjust it with the SCT. You simply have to figure out how many RPMs your tires turn and input that when you're loading your tune. Since I have 285/75/16 tires, they turn at 634 revs per mile. I've found that my odometer/trip meter are accurate, but the speedo is still off. The speedo with need to be adjusted with an IDS otherwise.
