Have a 55 F100 want to put a 300 6 in, this had a 428 in it many years ago, still have the mount, can I use it for the 300 6, they say the FE;s use the same mounts as the 6.

1954/64 I-6 & Y blocks used a completely different mounting system than 1965/66 F100/250 2WD; 1966 F100 4WD; 1967/76 F100/350 240/300 & FE engines.
So what parts were used to install the 428 (1966/70 cars), since parts from one of these trucks will not work on 1954/64's? Car parts are similar to trucks after 1964.
The mounts have no #'s on them, they used a pipe that went under the engine and bolted to the frame on each side, this is a manufactured piece. It has welded stands that the motor mounts bolt to. Is this the way you would put a 300 in a 55 F 100? I have never seen a 300 put in a 53 to 56. Thanks for the info. STEVE
That sounds like the universal tubular mount, very common. It sounds reasonable that the 300 and the FE's would have the same mount locations with different insulators (rubber mounts) to adapt each engine to the frame. But I can't say.
I'd measure from the mount location on the engine to the bellhousing, and see if the 300 will be into the firewall. Pretty sure people have done the swap, but I don't recall how much cutting (if any) would be needed to the firewall.
Your right it won't fit a "small block" crossmember. That's why I said FE V8 crossmember. The FE "big block" crossmember is an exact fit for the 300 with 70's ford truck 300 mounts. But to use it you do need the rear sump oil pan( 70's 4x4 or 80+ ) . The early center sump pans won't clear the crossmember. My 54 F100 came with a 300 in it when I bought it. The previous owner had made a crossmember for it. I bought one of the Trans-dapt FE crossmembers that I listed and it was an exact match. The 300 bolted right up with the 70's mounts. Just like you can drop a 300 right in place of a FE V8 in the 65-79 Ford truck and vice versa.

I did this you talk about, used the Ford FE engine mount and stock rubber mounts from the donor 300-6 out of a 85 F150. You can check out my build thread though it hasn't been updated in a long time. Als I followed mtphammer's thread which I think you can find his user profile and like to his build thread off of my thread. I think I got this mount for less than $100.00. I also bought a transmission mount for mine for about $70.00. I think both of them were made by transdapt but were available on line for less. Maybe was Summet or Jegs. My truck is still along way from being done but check it out and ask any other questions that come up. Yeah I think the 300 6 will be a great match for our old trucks. Do you have some pics of yours?
Steve, you may want to change the title of this thread to say something about putting a 300 in. I completely skipped it at first because I thought it was about original motor mounts on a 55.
I think I have that crossmember, will try and get engine this week. I am going to do it with help from a friend, I am 71, not as nimble as I used to be, friend is right there too. This truck had a 428 in it when I got it, long gone now, do have the trans mount too, hope it will work with the standard 3 speed + trans with the engine. Thanks for the info.
