Looking for your guys opinon I don't have an issue starting my 7.3 in the mornings but as a preventive maintenance I wanted a second opion on glow plugs if I'm going through PM work and find a couple of GP's out of range spec. Should I just replace as required or replace all at one time? The accepable range is .5 to 1ohm on a good functioning glow plug as I undertand right? Thanks for your thoughts....
im not sure of the operating range of a GP however if it was me i would replace them all at once.... if i replaced say 6 out of 8 and had the remaining 2 fail a week later id be pretty pi$$ed ya know what i mean??
My 1990 7.3 wont start after it has been sitting for 8-hours regardless of the temp outside. Once i give it a shot, it starts all day. What can i check???
when was the last time you changed the glow plugs? how long does the wait to start light come on? have you ever changed the relay/controller?
If you are using starting fluid to start it, it will start to damage things over time...i even know of a air intake that caught fire because of it. I would recommend replacing your glow plugs if you cant start it when its cold.
if i had a meter that read the low resistance, then i would only change the bad ones.
since i don't,and used the test light method,i opted to change all 8 when i saw 3 where bad.
one or more must have been out of spec(even though they lit up),because it started easier yet again.
so i say,if you have the good meter, then get your $'s worth out of it,by milking the GP's for all they're worth.
just test 'em every other month or something like that.perhaps every month in winter.
