Hello, and thank you for having me.
i have a 95 f250 with the 5.8 and 5 speed manual, 252,000 miles. Today I was crossing three lanes of traffic in first gear, goosed it pretty good, and about halfway across, the engine fell flat on its face. I was able to get across and pulled to the side, the engine was idling but I could tell it was rough. I tried to rev it, but no luck, leading me to believe the timing was retarded too much. So I got out, advanced it back up and it ran ok. The distributor is the advanced auto special, less then 8,000 miles on it. The distributor bolt was not loose, so I don’t think it slipped, and to advance the timing I have the distributor twisted as far as it can go. Now my question, is it possible for the gear on the distributor to slip? Or does it sound more like the timing chain jumped? Thank you again for your time!
I am not the original owner, I got the truck at 220,000 miles. to my knowledge it has never been done. I have done the distributor, plugs and wires, coil, and a new battery. thats it for the electrical stuff. I'm going to yank the distributor today and see if it spun.
