I just replaced my timing chain and gear set.
Went with a double roller.
Set it to zero advance.
At TDC set the rotor to #1.
Got everything back together, truck fired up and ran fine. Ran it for 5~10 minutes, got it up to temperature and shut it down to set the idle and then adjust the timing.
Went to start it up and wouldn't start.
Checked the distributor and the timing was off.
At TDC the rotor was 90 degrees off ( clockwise of #1 )
What would cause the rotor to be off?
Haven't reset the timing yet, because I can't get the distributor out, turns but can't pull it out, maybe because it is warm
Pull the distributor back out. A broken roll pin on the distributor gear will do that. While it's not super common, it does happen. Be careful pulling the distributor back out so you don't drop the gear in the engine.
Tried pulling out the distributor this morning when the engine was cold, no luck.
Distributor rotates but doesn't move vertically at all.
Usually slides right out.
Tonight, I'll try some leverage after turning the shaft a little.
