Driving to work yesterday and out of the corner of my eye I see movement on the passenger floor. A mouse is chewing away at my sons applesauce pouch! The nerve of that thing to just come out in the open like that! Lol It was funny at first but then I started thinking about possible damage. So at that point the fight was on.....
It came in through the cabin air intake and nested on the filter.
I'm still looking for the source of his nesting material. I have no interior damage so I'm thinking it must be from the engine bay. Still need to investigate that area.
My previous place used to get its share of field mice. Best bait I found was cutting a small edge from a Snickers bar with a sharp knife to cleanly slice the peanut pieces open for their smell (mice apparently love chocolate and peanuts). After 2 weeks of other failed attempts of ridding one particular rodent, the Snickers piece drew him out and nabbed him in just 2 hours.
We actually have a cat unfortunately but it's more interested in killing chipmunks then mice. I need to find the air intake. I would think Ford would put a small screen in that area but maybe it's too easy to clog up? I don't know but I'll check it out.
I am driving my late father in law's truck, as I had bought it from his wife soon after he had died. Got a nice deal on it but while he was sick, the truck sat idle for almost a year. The mice had gotten to it and I had to replace wire looms and assorted other things. I've had it for a couple of years now and just can't get rid of the funky smell, especially bad on a cold winter day with that heat running full tilt! Will be shopping for a new super duty soon, can't wait to unload this smelly truck!
Make sure you do a great job of disinfecting that nesting area!
Mouse urine has that old tractor smell...................
Or old tractors have mice.
For a while my dog would jump into the tractor every time I opened the door and stick his nose up under the instrument panel. I knew I had a rodent when I saw that.
He's a bird dog mix but hunts like a terrier.
Wife has a ‘17 Edge and before she drove to LA last weekend, I checked the fluids. As I was closing the hood I saw a piece of cat crap on the fuse box... then I noticed a bunch of paw prints. There is no way the thing could have crawled up there... There’s literally no room...
I found a hole in a bag of nuts I always keep in the drivers door long ago. At first I thought the bag was just torn but soon realized it was a mouse that got into it.
I set a single trap on the floor (p-nut butter), closed the door and started walking toward the front door of my house 20 feet away. Before I could take 5 steps I heard the snap of the trap and that was that.
