EARLY 99 F250 rear caliper,different?

so i have an early 99 f250 and have a seized caliper out back. i am curious if anyone has replaced the metal piston with the newer phenolnic piston. i am also curious about the left caliper being on the front side with the guard to keep it safe i imagine, and flipping it to the rear like my excursion i have done a search and not found anything with the specs i am looking for.

part of my goal is to have common parts between my excursion and the pick up ( i know about the front wheel bearings and rotors)

if not i will post my results about the caliper and if it is plausible to flip the left caliper to the rear side so it can be left and right for the future versus one common like it is now.

thanks for any input in advance Dave

Caliper will fit on either side but the bleeder will end up at the bottom rather than the top. I had to do that on my 99 F250 years ago as it was a week wait for the "correct caliper" only difference is the location of the drilled and tapped hole for the bleeder. I had to have the rotor off the truck with the caliper on the rotor to bleed it then install the rotor and caliper. Not the best but can be done.

technically on the early 99 there is no left and right caliper on the rear, on the left side it is factory on the front side of the axle and on the right it is on the back side making it the same caliper, i want to know if the later calipers are a direct fit and function and if it is feasible to flip the caliper to the normal position on the left. id just like parts to be direct swap from the X to the 250 if im in a pinch

so a 99.5+ right caliper (yes the bleeder is in the correct position) is a direct fit for the left side of a pre 99.5, as far as flipping it to the rear will require a bracket from a donor truck i think i have not dismantled the parts truck far enough yet. i will share results when i do.

Old thread, but had to deal with this issue
donor truck axle code 31 built 11/2000 low mileage wreck
recipient truck built 10/99 with 376k miles

swapped rear end

brakes from the donor were both rear of rotor
brakes from recipent were brand new , left /driver side was front of rotor

tried to reuse the brake calipers from old axle on new axle by changing the mounting plate on drivers side
the bolt pattern is different and could not be swapped
had to buy the different caliper to fit and a shorter brake line

the right side fit no problems

So now both are rear of rotor, which is better anyway

but dont waste your time trying to swap the mounting plates

well shizzz i will just throw the parts out that i pulled from the parts truck then. i was going to wait until the brakes went again and give it a shot.

thank you for the response and answer to my question on such an old thread!!!
