Question About Auto Climate Feature. Potential Problem?

2017 F-350 Platinum. Auto climate feature works great with AC aside for it taking a few seconds to come on when i hit AUTO on the ****. But when I crank temperature clockwise for heat with the AUTO climate feature barely anything comes out the vents. I have to turn off AUTO and manually adjust the fan and temp for heat to come out. Is the AUTO climate feature only for AC or do I have a faulty unit?

I am not certain with the Super Duty, but other vehicles I've owned with auto-climate did not actuate the fan for heat until after the engine had warmed up and could provide heated air.

I guess that makes sense since I every time I use the AUTO feature for heat its in the morning when the engines cold. But even with the engine cold if I take it off auto I get heat almost instantaneously. Maybe someone else can chime in.

As I've experienced, even though there is "some" heat available from the vents (engine partially warmed up), the auto-on will not activate until after a predetermined engine temperature is reached. Have run across that since the mid-80s. One would think they would program the fan to run slow when heat is first detected, and then speed up as the engine reaches full operating temperature.

IN auto, it won't ramp up the heat, with the fan spee until there is about 120 degrees water temp. Until then, it adds the supplemental cab heater if you have it, but it doesn't run the fan speed up. Then once it starts getting water temp it ramps up the fan to desired setting. This was even the way it worked on my 2005 diesel. If you watch the coolant gauge it's about halfway to normal before you notice the fan, otherwise you have to manually crank it fan speed and temp setting to engage it earlier.

So I have noticed your description to be perfectly normal.
