The transmission in my 6.0 is done. Local shops rebuild 5R110s but dont beef them up. Im sunk with the option of just buying a new one online. My truck makes close to about 600hp. So it does need a transmission that is pretty strong, a lot of people have recommended suncoast. Although suncoast is a very good brand I cant see me spending $9000 on a transmission thag ill never need. Has anyone else ordered one online and had good luck/bad luck? Something thats not as hateful on the wallet? I am staying away from monster transmission, I have heard nothing but bad from them. But curious to see what everyone else is doing with their 5Rs.
Yes I tell them the HP and they say we usually rebuild them just back to stock. One shop has offered to build it, but they flat out told me theyve never actually built one to handle that kind of power let alone any power at all. They will warranty it, but im looking to just get it done right once.
BTS hardly answers the phone, returns calls, and won't warranty the 5R110 they build for more than a year.
When I went through my transmission woes last summer, I had a local shop rebuild it on the word of some guys at the shop. I handed them the parts, paid them their money when I picked it up, put it back in, and the torque converter wouldn't lock up. Two torque converters and a pump later, the transmission is working like it should, but I only have a 6 month warranty which runs out in January 2018. While they honored their warranty, the took 3 months guessing as to why my converter wouldn't lock up. I had to call trans builders across the country to gather a consensus that the pump needed to be replaced. I then had to call them and MAKE them replace the pump they swore up and down was still good.
The bottom line and point I'm trying to make is that given the power your truck is making, you need to make sure what you're spending your money on will last and stand the test of time and the power your truck is putting down. I don't work for David Ferguson, but I talked to him while I had my transmission woes and even though I didn't buy his transmission he STILL helped me. The guy has amazing customer service and has spent the money to find out what works and stand the test of time and what doesn't.
Don't take my word for it, give him a call: (513) 824-1680
I emailed them and am looking forward to hearing back from them! So far I like what I have seen but just have a couple questions myself. I do appreciate the info though they do seem very legit.
I've heard bad things about sun coast lately. I'd stay far away. I don't know if it's the help or what. I'd go with Razzi suggestion.Built trans are big bucks and I wouldn't mess with that kind of money.
