7.3 engine. Can anyone suggest where to install a coolant temp sensor? When I installed my Edge CTS2 monitor I added a coolant temp sensor to the coolant filter housing but I really think its way off, as in reading 20+ deg cooler than actual coolant temp in the engine.
Where are others installing the coolant temp sensor for a CTS or for a gage?
I installed my sending unit in one of the plug ports of my water pump. I installed an aftermarket water pump in my Ford Excursion 7.3 and it had a plug to remove so yours may be different. My Isspro gauge reads consistent with where it should based on my Motorcraft thermostat which I installed 2 months ago.
I installed mine in the housing of my coolant filter.
That's where I have mine currently but its reading 155 deg which I know is not right. Oil temp is 200 or so and thermostat is 195. Perhaps the single wire sensor that the Edge uses is not properly grounded on that filter housing and is reading incorrectly. I am going to try and ground it better and see if that helps. If not I will move it to the engine somewhere. Since the engine computer does not read water temp there is nothing other than the dash gage to compare to. That one is squarely in the middle of the scale.

Just a quick question, you have your ball valves turned on? If one is on and other is off that could be the issue...just a thought.
Trouble is, it will not read anything in a glass of water as there is no ground path. Its a single wire sensor and I think that may be my problem with the coolant filter mounted to the radiator support. Time to do some electrical testing and or grounding I think.
Where did you get the Sender and the T and connector?
I got the T fitting at Home Depot. Standard 3/8" npt fitting. The sender came with the isspro gauge. You can pick it up at dieselmanor.com. I feel like this is the best way to monitor coolant temps as there is a steady flow of coolant always being pushed across the sender.
