Unhappy Up Pipe Replacement gone wrong - Suggestions ??

'05 flex pipe blew so what I thought would have been a day job has gone bad. I've given up trying to get the exhaust bolts out of the manifold. I cut all the bolts to get the up pipes out the bolts are seized in the manifold good - both sides. Tried grinding / punching them out - Drivers side can't even get to them.

Thinking best to cut my loses and pull the manifolds. Looks like they will come out not to bad however thats what I thought about the up pipe. Any suggestions or tips would be much appreciated.. The trucks sitting in my driveway all torn apart so pulling the cab is not really an option.

Just worried if I break a manifold bolt or cause any more damage I'm totally screwed.

Note: I had the motor out a few years back I put the manifold bolts in the wrong way which is the main reason there seized in there so well.

Thanks,

I had the same problem when I did my up pipe. I tried for days and threw everything I could think of to get those bolts out.

In the end I pulled the manifolds, put them in the vise and pound the bolts out. It was easy to do once the manifolds were out and had some room to work on em. It was surprisingly easy to get them off the truck. Two hours at most.

I wished I had pulled them in them in the first place. I wasted days trying to get those bolts out.

Good luck!

Appreciate your feedback I’ve got a day into trying to get the bolts out after throwing everything at it. I’ll order up some manifold gaskets hoping the old gaskets come out okay otherwise it will be a bitch to try and clean the surface. When I re did the motor the bolts came out surprisingly easy hope I have the same luck.

Funny I bought the up pipes from extreme diesel I asked if it comes with manifold bolts he said no you re use the existing bolts - are you serious ?

I pulled the manifolds the passenger side had some really tight spots, drivers side I found much easier. Bolts came out fine with a little muscle - nothing seized.

Getting the manifold bolts to the y pipe out - if anyone has to do this job just pull the manifolds if the bolts won't come out with some effort. Drivers side manifold was untouched pulled the manifold put an impact on the 10mm and it managed to spin itself out. The passenger side I stripped out while in the truck still due to the tough angles. Torched the head off the and tried everything to pound them out - I eventually drilled them out but it took a ton of effort almost full day and 2 boxes of drill bits later. To do it over I would have just taken it to a machine shop or bought a replacement - the OEM bolts must be made out of some really hard material.
