I am almost done completely rebuilding my 1977 351m which is now a 400m because I swapped the crank and pistons. I bought a new harmonic balancer https://www.summitracing.com/parts/a...rd/model/f-150
But I lost the key that came with it. I bought a replacement key and it appears too tall. The 3/16 width is correct but I don't see anyone listing the spec for the height. The key I have is 7/32 tall which makes it stick out just shy of an 1/8" past the groove. I don't see anyway I can use this key. I tried contacting ATP to see if their key is any different but have not heard back from them. What do I do here? I haven't found any info on the correct way to install the key, I'm assuming because usually its self explanatory.
Dimensions: W x L x H.......3/16" (0.1845") x 1 3/4" (1.7525") x 7/32" (0.2185")
Be sure to use a Balancer putter onner....(please excuse the technical terminology here...)... much easier than cranking down on the bolt/washer.
Not to put a "damper" (haha) on yer new balancer but it looks like one for a 351M...not a 400. I know the numbers in the parts catalogue might be the same but there's three different ones....different in weight and thickness of the ring. Hopefully you won't feel a vibration when you fire her up......if you do, let us know.
That's the size I have and it's too tall. They claim it's for a 400 and not a 351m. Idk if I can grind an 1/8" off and still keep it flat. Guess I'll wait and see what atp says.

They're idiots....to put it mildly. The woodruff key's dimensions I gave you came off a 351M crank.
It's the same key as a 400 and a 351W.

It'll be too shallow to hold the crank gear and balancer on if you do that. They're meant to be a pretty tight fit.....
You know the key goes in the crank first and then the crank gear, cam gear/timing chain are installed, then the timing cover and balancer go on after that, yes?
But, go ahead and wait...I'm interested in what "they" say.
