Check out NBC news. General Motors announced they will go completely
electric, and discontinue the internal combustion engine. All this by 2023.
How long do you think the Feds. (in their great wisdom) will outlaw
all ICE's after that. Well. after all they do know whats good for us. Teach
the grand kids what it's like to ride in an old Ford pickup truck while you
still can.
Solar panel technology is advancing along quite well. I am sure we will have tonneau covers that juice up the batteries where ever we are. Wouldn't that be nice to just get in and go? Never be out hunting and run out of gas? We adapt and improve anything that comes along.
Eventually, an electric motor will be able to roll the tires over easily. I look forward to transplanting one in a dent at some point.
its not feasibly Economical for everyone to jump out there and buy a brand new electric car that cannot even go 100 miles on a charge! How the heck could we travel 100's of miles in a day without waiting for our batteries to charge?
I am not give-in up my dent with a 390 4bbl 4 speed for a electric motor!

This is pretty much the exact same thing I said in 'the other thread' that was started on this.
Other alternative energy sources are fine. The problem is when one is phased in over another before it's economically affordable to the consumer and most especially before its infrastructure is widely established to where you could recharge, nation-wide. As I had mentioned in the other thread, I've never even seen any charging stations in Arkansas.
The word "alternative" means there's a choice. If one is phased out over the other, that's not exactly an alternative, when there is no other choice.
In my day job I work on both electric and IC vehicles. Electric is the future for sure...but IC will be around for a long time yet I think. How long that is...I don’t know but it will be directly related to advances in battery tech. I spent some time considering way to convert my truck to electric, but I scrapped the idea because it was a bigger project that I wanted to get into.
I am sure this same conversation took place back when horses were the main transportation, and horses havent all been butchered yet, right?
You guys are getting all charged up, or fueling the fire depending how you wanna see it, and we are talking decades away
...he said, "charged up."
Maybe it's far off, maybe it's not. Whatever the case, even if it's in 10 years, 10 years is not long from now.
In the case of Ford and the 5.0L EFI Mustang that debuted in 1986, all the engineering, design work and working models of the fuel injected 5.0L Mustang had already been established for 10 years prior to its actual release date.
How long have electric vehicles been out on the market now?
Perhaps the government should be less involved in dictating what corporations make and be less involved in picking and choosing winners and losers in business and, let the consumers pick the winners and losers by dictating what products they want to buy through their own dollars.

Supposedly Dyson of the vacuum cleaner fame, is developing or has developed batteries which would double the range of the Tesla. I hear they are also planning on building their own car in a few years. If they're as good as the vacuum, I ought to start saving now, and save me dentside for weekend cruising. I don't think there needs to be an outright ban, but sensible legislation to still allow people to partake in an old car hobby, and real concerns for the world at large.
When I was a kid and read Popular Mechanics and Popular Science, we were all supposed to have flying cars by the 80s. What the hell happened to those.
I think the technology is moving at a reasonable rate and have no problems with advancement in the technology since the huge majority of our emissions are from city commuters who are even now well withing the range of an electric car. But then much of the electricity to charge them has to come from coal power plants so what's to gain until solar gets better. much better. And as long as there is a drop of oil to sell, the oil companys will still be there making fuel for our cars. And when that runs out, we will run them on corn squeezings or crude made from chicken guts.
UltraRanger, as 1 of the elite guys here, I am surprised by your lack of vision or forward thinking here.
Maybe it is because this is more common here, and we see Teslas and Priasses everywhere that we are more accepting of it. Maybe because the closest parking spots at many of the stores are for the handicapped or charging stations. California even gives free access to toll roads, to electric vehicles.
Given the opportunity, I would mod a dent with an electric motor, you bet.
Willowbilly3, solar power is advancing just as fast. The panels now can charge off intermittant light, meaning cloudy days with no sun.
I had a friend that got a Toyota Prius when they 1st came out. I will now openly admit that is was a interesting vehicle with the all elec or 4 cyl or both operate option.
I had a few opportunities to drive it in town and highway, it would get up and go, nothing like a V8, but it would scoot for what it was. He also got a heck of a tax break for getting a zero emission vehicle.
And it would go from Ft Rucker Al, to Ft Campbell on one (10 gal?) tank of fuel. 7 hrs and 433.5 mi, I was always impressed with that ability.
I continue to drive my ol blue truck thru the Ford lot and admire the new Ford trucks and cars and I will keep doing that as long as I can buy gas.
