I tried recently to replace my fuel filter, but couldn't get the dang thing off the fuel line. I got my trusty and greasy repair manual and I noticed to my dismay that I need a special tool to disconnect the filter.
Where could I obtain this tool (which I will probably use once), and if it is ridiculously expensive or hard to obtain, is there a trick to getting it off without said tool?
Good news, you can get a set of them from Autozone for 6 or 7 bucks. They're little plastic C-shaped things that slip over the fuel line. Easy enough for even me to use.
On my 92 F 150 it took some pulling even with the tool to get the hose off the filter. MY 89 Bronco II & 93 Aerostar hoses pulled real easy off & did not use the tool.I was afraid I was going to break something but you have to twist & pull with the tool in there. Good luck.
The trick to using the tool is to push the opposite way you want the hose to go until you get the tool inserted ALL the way in the fuel fitting. It has always been easy for me once I learned this little trick.
Also, the tool I have has two different diameter ends. While both ends appear to insert correctly, only one of them will release the fuel line.
