Trying to remove lens from headlights for cleaning. Didn't want to buy new for a couple reasons and thought this wouldn't be difficult. But I was wrong.
Any tips to separate lens? I can't get the lens/reflector out of the housing. Seems like there is more to it then bending frame up over the nubs on the lens. I was reading about needing to bake it on an F-150 forum - am I looking at that here as well?
Thanks
Mike
There is a procedure like put it in the oven on 250 for 15 minutes or something to release the adhesive but I never did it. Guys around here have done it so they can color match the inside with body paint.
Did you search YouTube? Hopefully one will chime in.
Thanks 87. I did several google searches but should have searched YouTube directly. I think I was missing the "bake" keyword as that seems to be pretty common.
After watching the process my interest level had taken a nosedive. Truck is pretty much a tow vehicle and I rarely tow at night. I'll likely investigate aftermarket options when I feel like I need to do something.
I was in your shoes 8 months or so ago. I opted for some smoked China newbies and can't be happier. The smoked is actually a thick film. We will see how long they last. They were around 100. I also run some LED headlights from Amazon.

hello,
I would suggest you not to bother on that. The inside of the lenses will get scratched easily than the outside. Any cleaning will make it worse. That's if you get as far as opening the headlights. 15 mins in the oven won't do it for your headlights, not even 40 at intervals. Then expect moisture after you try to seal it right. I'm with the others that suggested new headlights if you just want clean ones. If you want to get projectors and any kind of custom work done be sure to count on us. We specialize in this work for your headlights. Learn more at hidretrofitkit.com
Thanks for feedback, will likely go China cheapies down the road. Or one of those hid retrofit kits if I find several benjamins laying on the sidewalk one day.
