This morning they're telling us the Bear fire is 391 acres - 85% contained. Not quite out. We had a lot of wind from the north last night (the bad direction). If things don't start getting worse, we are almost there.
All the really big fires north of the bay are in the 90-94 % contained, so it looks like we're getting there.
Hello NoCal Chapter,
I am pulling travel trailer across country hearing growing growl in the (left?) front end I suspect is bearing.
Bakersfield, California is along our travel path between Death Valley and Yosemite and I would appreciate a recommendation for me to schedule my 2000 V10 4WD Dana front axle Excursion,
Thank You,
Note: posted same note earlier in SoCal Chapter Oct Page and no one knew Bakersfield Shop.

That is good news that the fires are out. However, I know it will take a long time for everything to get back to normal, and some places will never get back to the way they were.

It's funny that you should mention this.
Just the other day, I was looking at Mt. Diablo and remembering when it was on fire (might be a couple of decades back, by now).
I was thinking about how the fires have changed the mountain's vegetation patterns.
According to the missus, she thinks you might be thinking of 1977; she has a memory for dates...
However, the more recent one was the 2013 "Morgan fire". It produced plants/flowers that hadn't been seen in 80 years (https://baynature.org/diablo/)
A tip of the hat to the old lady (that's meant to be a euphemism, not an insult)... I believe she's right.
The thought that struck me is that you can still see the general outlines of the parts that burned, because they now have dark green brush (instead of the golden brown grass).
The Morgan fire didn't mean as much to me, since I live west of the mountain. I rarely get to see the east side of Mt. Diablo.

I'm on the east side of Mt Diablo , the Farmer planted Almonds about 6 years ago so the mountain is slowly disappearing , all I can see now is little more than the peak , not so much of the foothills. We do get some Awsome Sunsets with Diablo in the picture
