i have a 2002 for sale E350 with a 5.4l. I bought the van with a bad transmission at 165,000 miles. I had that transmission rebuilt and now have 207,000. it hasn't given me any trouble until I took the van to Florida on vacation on the way back to Kentucky the trans started down shifting and acting funny so I checked the fluid and it was good no burnt smell or anything. Finally got home after have to drive at about 15 mph on the shoulder with what felt like a massive transmission slip issue.
So skip to now I have put another rebuilt trans in the van, all new sensors (OSS,TSS, neutral safety switch, vehicle speed sensor). Took it for a test drive and it shifted from first to second to third then when I pulled out on the Main Street it just held in first, it's doing the exact same thing as on the way home from Florida where it is slipping and is having trouble shifting. I have looked at all the wires and have found nothing. So is there anything I should look for? I'm thinking maybe pcm?
Well the trans is 100% computer controlled so the next step would be to hook up a scanner to see what the computer thinks is going on in real time.. and if that doesn't match reality then you should see a disparity somewhere. Lots of possibilities like maybe the shift lever sensor needs a little adjustment, or maybe some other sensor like the TPS is intermittent or the PCM is losing speed input.
So I'm assuming to see that information I need more than my acutron scanner. Any recommendations as to what scanner software to use? I do not believe I can drive the vehicle to a shop.
The speedo is working fine, I scanned the van and my scanner didn't pull up any codes,
its difficult to explain exactly what it feels like, once it hits 3rd gear it's like the van will barely go, then after driving if for just a couple minutes it's like the transmission gets stuck in first or second gear and won't shift and bogs the motor.

what you described doesn't sound like slipping. Transmission slipping is when the engine increases rpm but the vehicle doesn't gain speed in normal proportion. (While in gear)
EXACTLY what do you mean "the van will barely go" ? Does the engine struggle to increase rpm? Or does the engine increase rpm while the van doesn't gain speed?
and when you say it's "like" the transmission gets stuck in gear and won't shift and bogs the motor... is it doing those things? Or not?
You seem to be trying to describe the symptoms with phrases/words that are actually a diagnosis of the problem.
Just tell us exactly what happens. Describe the things that happen and don't happen.
and just to be clear:
1.bogging the motor is when it fails/struggles to increase rpm
2. Transmission slipping is when the engine rpm increases but the vehicle speed doesn't increase proportionally.
3. Getting to 2nd or 3rd gear and then "won't shift" indicates that you'd be running high rpm. Is this your situation or not?
