Once the MIL is illuminated, three consecutive drive cycles without a malfunction detected are required to extinguish the MIL. The DTC is erased after 40 engine warm-up cycles once the MIL is extinguished.
You will have the code stored in memory even if you clear the light unless you go 40 warm up cycles.
Ok, Thanks Dave. It has been thru 3 or 4 now and is still lit. Do these cycles have to include highway driving as well, or just complete from cold to operating temp with normal city driving? I have only had 1 15 mile highway trip since it tripped.

If you guys want a locking gas cap Ford has one, the part numbers are P/nFC-971 and P/nXU5Z-9030-FA. Fits the late model F-150 and most other late model Fords.
I had to send Ford a nasty e-mail because they keep putting me off now about calling me back. First it was within 3 days, Then they said that they were backed up and wait 7 working days. It has been 10 now so I told them That I have bought alot of Fords and now the new HEMI is looking better to me all of the time. I also told them that I was not happy with their warranty service and that they should give me an extended warranty for my troubles.
I would never buy a HEMI unless Ford wants to put a BOSS429 in my truck like they did the orange Mustang Project car that SVT built a few years ago that was emmisions legal and had over 600HP!!!
I am getting fed up with the runaround that I am now getting. They first responded in a timely matter but have been putting me off every since.
Jimmy,
Sorry to have to say I told you so but I cant resist :>)
You have been talking to 1 800 I dont give a ...... (aka Ford Customer Support) They really are useless. Make the whole company look bad. I wasted hours with those clowns
Go to BlueOvalNews web site and find the telephone number of the person in charge of service for your area maybe you can get some help there
I will.
I took it back today with the MIL lit and they reset it and ordered a new PCV hose. I don't know if it will fix the shudder, but we'll see. I am still going to call a rep.
I've been waiting for the ITYS. I should have known better to expect too much from Big Corporate.
My hose is supposed to be in Friday.
I hope that the service parts last longer that the originals. 2yrs, 32,000 miles.

Just when I thought I am sick of working on my old 78 and would like something shiny and new to drive. You guys remind me why I paid 2500 to get rid of a 97 f150 that was intended to be my dream truck. It was a dream, a very scary 2 year long dream. The kind where you wish you could wake up and face Jack Nicholson in the Shining just so you could have an enemy with a face. I sure hope the dumb sucker that bought it off the lot has lots of money. Either that or knows a good friend who will loan him 5 gallons of gas and a match, and not ask questions when he needs a ride back from the middle of the desert.
I'm here
Just been busy with stock car club stuff and helping the wife redo some stuff in the house
Good luck dealing with Ford. Even us dealer types have problems trying to get them to call back, trying to get answers etc.
It can get verrry frustrating.
Well, I must say, I am overall really happy with the truck. It has had this idle shudder since I bought it, though it is worse sometimes than others.
We will see how the new hose works. It didn't trip the MIL on the way back home, so I don't know if itis actually leaking or not. I ain't gonna mess with it while it's under warranty.
My other half wishes I would have bought a SuperCrew because she says that the back seat isn't big enough for her. (she rides back there because my son has CP and can not sit up without having the center flipdown console to lean on.)
Is it just me or do the SuperCrews sit up higher, especially in the rear than a SuperCab.
Jimmy
Ok Dave, If the new hose doesn't change my idle, I am going to keep calling Detroit until I get some answers. I am also pretty sure that there is a slight low speed miss as well, like at 40mph in od, but it isn't dramatic , you can really feel it in the pedal if barefoot.
Ford Tough, means Tough to get answers from Ford!!
It was a dream, a very scary 2 year long dream. The kind where you wish you could wake up and face Jack Nicholson in the Shining just so you could have an enemy with a face
Well, I did get another e-mail from them today. They said that they had talked to me and had resoved the issue. WHAT??? I was told that engineering would get back to me within 3 working days.
Well, it's over a month later and I still have not heard a word.
I told them about themselves in my reply.
I never got a call from my dealer today either telling my that my PCV elbow was in.
I told them that I wanted a free extended warranty because, this will make the 4th trip to the dealer to maybe/maybe not fix my idle shudder.
I told them that I will not pay $90 for them to tell me something is normal, when I know that it isn't.
I drove out 2000 F250 at work today. It has the 5.4 and 61,000 miles on it. NO SHUDDER!!
I have sat in a couple of others and they didn't do it either.
The F250 feels alot more powerful than mine. It is just an XL with no power or carpet. It has 3.73"s and the 4R100 tranny.
It may be that it's a 2wd, but with the higher stall in the 4R100 tranny, feels like it pulls much better mine.
