high/low range transfer case from Ranger?

I've searched the interweb, and this forum, but nothing I've found is definitive.

Does an older Ranger manual transfer case bolt onto a '95 awd Aerostar with a 4r55e? I don't want to have to do a lot of fabrication.

Thanks,

Dave

Don't know, but it would be interesting to find out.

You can get online specs for the Tc-28 transfer case of the Aerostar, and compare it with that of the Ranger to see if at least the mating faces will match. Otherwise, you will need to get them both together to see.

Yes it does the auto transmission is the same. You just need custom drive shaft work. I've been researching this for a year. My transfer case has so many cracks I can't epoxy it no more. Look up
Monster areostar
Aero bomber
Pug shuttle on any of the 2 areostar forums. You will see I'm running truck mud and snow tires 225-75-15. No real problems no lift. I gained an inch of ground clearance. All photo showing the night and steps with a ruler.

The early manual casefrom a ford ranger or bronco 2. The areo star has the awd transfer case. Is your case good. And what are you using it for. If your looking for off road use and need the 2 speed transfer case don't do it. I have spent over a year of research it's easy to just swap the t case but you will need custom drive shafts.the areostar used a slip yoke because the way the front diff is mounted. For measurement the drive shaft front is 31-15/16. It's the only Ford that uses it. The bolt on unit for the manual is only 27 7/16. So you will need a new one your looking at a few hunderent just for the front. Then there's the back also. That awd is a good system ahead of its time remember it was made in 1990 and a first for any company it's like a Subaru the center locks when there's slippage . Other wise it's 4x4 open unit. There's a guy in ranger station whoguted his 4x4 and replaced it with an aerostar unit and loves it he drift races in snow and told me it's 100 better than 4x4. I wanted to switch because by t case is so cracked it's held togeather with epoxy and jb weld. The owner that I got it from lied to me and said it was a bolt. I beleave them they were church people and original owners. The weak link is the front diff. It can't handle off road. That was done on purpose and the areostar was killing explorer so they never beefed up the front diff. I'm at icuff4cash@ gmail if you need something I'm in Vegas and this site was very very quiet UNTILL you asked a question.

Thanks for the info.

I've had Land Rovers, Jeeps and an '87 6.9 4x4 zf 5-speed f250 I loved, but I've never really looked at an Aerostar before. I couldn't say no to this camper when it fell in my lap. Since I know nothing about Aerostars, I'll have a bunch of questions.

I don't want to wheel it, but there are a lot of mountains, logging roads, and dirt tracks where I am, and low range for some dirt climbs up a mountain would be nice, and probably easier on the trans. One campsite I like is 50-miles of logging roads, with a neat dual track near the end. My stock t-case is working fine, so there's no rush.
