quick axle questions

Hi quick question, my rear axle (9") is leaking from the center section. I was going to pop open the cover and put make a new gasket but looks like I have to pull the axle shafts out(or at least pull them a little) so I can get the cover out far enough. Because the shafts hold the gears in place.

Just want to make sure I'm right on this, don't need to make extra work for my self.

But the front axle Dana 44 is different I can just pop that cover off, drain oil, regasket and refill like a normal stile axle right?

THis is correct.

I would recommend to completely remove rear axles from both sides.

If you let them droop down they rest on the axle tube seal and can be damaged.

Good point about the seals. They aren't leaking now but after I pull them it could start so was hoping to not have to move them at all.
