Where would you start looking for an intermittent no-start?
96 E350, 7.5.
This has started recently... No issues with cold starting at all. Occasionally though, when coming out of a store after a short time with the van still hot, it will click but not start. This repeats several times for a minute or two, then it will crank and start as normal. Electrical system engages with key on as normal, but starter just clicks once when the key is turned then nothing else. Doesn't happen every time when warm either. All I've done so far is check cables which seemed tight and no corrosion. Battery was replaced in March and is showing proper charge level. Didn't monitor it under load yet though. Any thoughts?
Notice there is a start relay and a second relay on the starter motor. Check the case of the starter relay to ensure it is properly grounded to frame. It is usually mounted in the passenger side front fender well.
On second thought, because "it clicks", the problem could be intermittent contacts in the starter relay so just replace the starter relay to begin with.
