Exclamation Aod transmission issues

I have a 92 f150 4x4 5.0 with a 4 inch lift on 31 inch trailmarks it has an aod transmission and I've set the tv or kickdown but I still have no forward gears I recently found a c6 automatic out of a 2 wheel drive I was wondering if this would be a better swap then replacing the current aod for a second time the transmission that was in the truck went out had no drive no reverse and could smell how burnt it was I bought this used aod trans and put it in it worked up until I hit 45 mph and then I lost forward gears I have reverse but nothing even in 4wheel so was wondering what the easiest way to resolve this issue would be the junk yard offered to replace the one I bought but that was about 5 months ago and not sure if they'll still replace it or refund it but can pick the c6 up rather cheap anyone know anything about this transmission swap I know the c6 is pretty much a bulletproof transmission and used is alot of mud trucks and that's all this is.

The C6 is a more robust trans but you need a 4wd version for this swap, a 2wd version cannot be easily modified to work.

Well I have multiple 4x4 transmissions with good tail shafts and have multiple transfer cases I guess that's what I'm wondering would the tailshaft off my aod transmission or off my toyo kogyo work to make this c6 a 4x4 transmission

No. To make a 2wd trans into a 4wd it has to be completely dismantled to change the output shaft.

An AOD output shaft will not fit in a C6.

So it would be better to find a 4wheel drive one k ima just going to get a different trans thanks but is there a chance that the torque converter is the problem since it was a junk yard transmission that I out in because it doesn't grind it doesn't smell burnt it just doesn't have any forward gears but a hard shift into a jump for reverse

Did you change the flexplate any time in there? The AOD require a specific flexplate and using one from a C6 for example will almost instantly destroy the trans.

Right now I have the aod in my truck and I drained some of the fluid it has less then ten miles on this trans since the swap and it's coming out dark red and smells roasted so I was given a bad trans oh well I miss my toyo kogyo I had a triple plated ceramic clutch upgraded slave cylinder and master slave cylinder and until that's transmission cracked I had no issues it was indestructible and easy to work with this auto trans is just given me problem after problem but I went to a transmission shop that'll sell me a transmission built specifically for off road use for just over a grand I wish I could just find a good cheap transmission to swap into my truck and be done

The transmission that was in it that went out is the same as what's in it now and the one I took out I know went bad I could smell it and hear it when it went out so I bought a used one put it in got everything situated and it was working great the first time out until I hit the highway and got to 45 mph and it didn't shift then no drive gears at all only reverse and I just ended up with a bad transmission

How did you set the TV cable? There is no way a trans should die that quickly so it must have been slipping pretty badly.

Well I used a vacuum/fuel pressure gauge in the tv port not the direct pressure port I set it to 1 psi in neutral and 32-35 in drive it didn't slip it shifted hard and was a bit low before I set my cables I let it run checked my fluid and filled it until it was within optimum operating range indicated on my trans fluid dipstick it has the 5.0 efi so the clip is on top of the intake first it was set so there was no slack but no tention and it shifted hard but went through every gear just fine until I hit 45 mph and when it should've shifted from 3rd it stopped moving altogether but as I mentioned it was a used transmission from a junk yard with unknown miles on it I have gotten bad parts from a junk yard before it happens when you're buying used equipment I took it to a transmission specialist they said the kickdown needed to be adjusted but he did say if the pressure isn't right it will burn out within ten miles so my guess is the transmission was bad when I put it in.

I set the cable no slack no tention let it warm up ran it through all gears with brake pressed added fluid until it was at optimal operating level as indicated on my dipstick used a vacuum gauge and connected it directly to the tv port on my truck in neutral was at 1 psi and in drive was at 32 or 35 it ran great in first and second shifted hard but when I kicked it down instead of shifting from 3rd it stopped moving didn't grind didn't pop just lost speed so I parked it talked to transmission specialist he said the vacuum pressure test was not right and on these aod transmission it'll burn out in less then ten miles if it's not correct he checked his info said I set it correctly however I think the gauge I used was off because when I restarted it and unhooked the gauge it's at 3 psi when not connected to anything so I'm guessing either the trans was already bad when I got it as I got it from a junk yard with unknown miles or it just burnt out

I used the tv port and a vacuum gauge but the trans was a junkyard special with unknown miles it was at 1 psi idling and 32 in drive it was shifting fine hard but fine until I hit 45 mph and when I went to kick it down it lost speed and quickly lost all forward momentum now reverse works hard after I shift down into 1st and slowly bring it back up and then a hard kick and she wants to go in reverse and I believe the transmission was junk however when I spoke with a transmission specialist they said the kickdown needed to be adjusted but he did say if the pressure isn't right it will burn out within ten miles so my guess is the transmission was bad
