I think that a M50D 5spd manual would be a better swap for economy, but an AOD would be a improvement too. The over drive will get the engine speed down when cruising, With 2.73 gears, you will want to drive in '3' or drive instead of OD in town to prevent lugging the engine or constant shifting of the trans.
they were rarer, but you can find 2wd 300-6 w/aod in the junk yard. I think they had to be of the 88-91 variety to get the AOD. That way you could get the drive shafts too. the AOD is longer than the C6 if I remember right.
A 2.73 gear with C6 is not much different than a 3.08 w/OD. The main difference will be converter lockup with the AOD. Lotsa work for not much gain IMO. The C6 is a much better transmission anyway. You might pick up 1-2 mpg with the AOD. If you had 3.55 or 4.10 gears the gain would be more.

Yea, after thinking about this abit more, I think your right.
The C6 in it right now is good and tight. Might as well leave well enough alone.
