P1316 Injector Circuit/IDM Codes Detected
P0276 Injector Circuit Low - Cylinder 6 (in your original post you said P0236) - I believe this is a CCT fault, not an electrical fault.
The IDM faults:
P1291 High Side No. 1 (Right) Short to GND or B+
P1292 High Side No. 2 (Left) Short to GND or B+
P1293 High Side Open Bank No. 1 (Right)
P1294 High Side Open Bank No. 2 (Left)
P1295 Multiple Faults on Bank No. 1 (Right)
P1296 Multiple Faults on Bank No. 2 (Left)
P1297 High Sides Shorted Together
P1298 IDM Failure
P1316 Injector Circuit/IDM Codes Detected
I think P1316 is there when one of the following electrical solenoid faults exist:
P1261 High to Low Side Short - Cylinder 1
P1262 High to Low Side Short - Cylinder 2
P1263 High to Low Side Short - Cylinder 3
P1264 High to Low Side Short - Cylinder 4
P1265 High to Low Side Short - Cylinder 5
P1266 High to Low Side Short - Cylinder 6
P1267 High to Low Side Short - Cylinder 7
P1268 High to Low Side Short - Cylinder 8
P1271 High to Low Side Open - Cylinder 1
P1272 High to Low Side Open - Cylinder 2
P1273 High to Low Side Open - Cylinder 3
P1274 High to Low Side Open - Cylinder 4
P1275 High to Low Side Open - Cylinder 5
P1276 High to Low Side Open - Cylinder 6
P1277 High to Low Side Open - Cylinder 7
P1278 High to Low Side Open - Cylinder 8
Any of the shorts can cause the IDM to shut down that bank to protect itself. So if you think a cylinder is not firing, as Mark said, pulling a VC to check for operation of the injectors will let you know if it's just one injector or all of them, look for oil spitting out. But if all of them are not running, it could be a bad solenoid shutting down the bank. Try unplugging one solenoid at a time. If you find an injector not spitting oil, you can switch the solenoid with a good injector. Just be careful if there's a shim on either solenoid (not OEM, but could be a PO fix). If it moves with the solenoid, you've found your problem.
Unplug it and see how it runs. Had a OBS truck that lost a injector line on the road, pinched it off, ran another 300 miles then fixed it. Should be the same. Didn't hurt a thing.
this is my original post with correct code numbers. Sorry for the confusion
Hi Brothers,
Well today has not been a Good Day. We arrived at an RV park yesterday afternoon. Truck was running great. unhooked from the fifth wheel and shut it down. This morning went out to warm it up before we went into town for some groceries. It started right up but instantly ran very bad & threw a ses . Well got out the laptop & checked it out p1316 IDM problem. did a buzz test that came up with code p0276 cyl 6 low circuit. ohmed the pin on the UVHC it was 3.5. pulled the valve cover just to check the connections. everything was tight. 50 cent mod still in place no burnt or chaffed wires. the harness over the valve cover is not chaffed. So is there anyone around Kingman, AZ. that has a spare IDM? I am 2000 miles away from home and we are heading to Yuma, AZ. for the winter.
Thanks for your Help !
I didn't think the buzz test returns codes, just operates the solenoids. Did you clear all codes before running the buzz test? I thought that code was a CCT code, but I could be wrong. It's listed among the "Contribution/Balance Fault" codes, and that's why I associated it with them. Can you run a CCT?
lost in AZ. I went out to do a CCT test & to see if all of the injectors were spitting oil. I had to plug the IDM back in. So after doing this and taking the valve cover off the left bank I did a buzz test just for kicks. IT PASSED. so I started it up. It ran fine. Now there are no codes. all the injectors on the left bank are spitting oil. The connector for the IDM looked ok. maybe had some old dielectric on the posts. Should i clean the posts up on the IDM & put it all back together? I hate chasing ghosts !
Well look on the bright side, it was nothing expensive! You still need to see if it runs under load, but it was probably a connection or at worse possibly a chafed wire that you moved in all the troubleshooting. If you have contact cleaner on hand I'd clean everything, test it again, and then button it up. Give it a run (w/o the fiver) for a test drive, and hopefully all will be good.
Kind of confirms the issue is electrical. IDM? Injector solenoid? Chaffed wire somewhere? All can be intermittent, and unfortunately, if you ohm something that is intermittent when it's working, then the ohm tests passes and you don't find what you should have.
That is exactly what I did, cleaned everything up, used contact cleaner on a couple q tips . I put it all back together, started it and still runs fine.
In the morning I will take it for a road test into town and fuel it up. its about 25 miles round trip.
I am going to stay here an extra night just in case something changes.
Thanks for all of help from the Brotherhood !
Helifixer I hope your daughter is doing OK.
back home at 0130 this morning, Daughter is okay, ended up adjusting medication hoping that will help. She has idiopathic intracranial hypertension (google it I am not good enough at typing to fully explain it)
thanks for your well wishes and prayers, it is causing her a great struggle while getting a double major and a minor degree at the University of Arizona
All is well, We arrived in Yuma yesterday afternoon. Truck ran fine, just like normal. We are here for six months so I have time if to work on it if it happens again.
Helifixer,
please let me know what you find on the truck you are working on. Might save me a headache or two later on.
