1971 F100 automatic

I have a 1971 F100 2wd. It has a floor shifter installed by previous owner. I’m trying to convert back to column shifter. I picked up a shift rod from salvage yard. It seems to connect to the steering column linkage ok but the connection at the transmission doesn’t seem right. Any help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks

What truck did the shift rod come from?

You cannot buy a shift rod and expect it to work, as there were TWO different A/T's used in 1971 F100 2WD's.

240 I-6; 300 I-6 and 302 2V used the C4 (11 trans pan bolt holes).

360 2V & 390 2V used the C6 (17 trans pan bolt holes).

1968/72 F250 2WD: That would be a 360 or 390 engine with a C6.

What engine does your 1971 F100 2WD have?

Then you will need C4 parts, because C6 parts will not work.

Another question. When installing a floor shifter, would they have needed to replace the shift lever on the tranny or use the original one?
Thanks

Floor shifters push the rod as you shift towards "drive" just as column shifts do. But since the floor shifter is behind the tranny's shift lever this would shift the tranny backwards if left alone. Unless the PO used a Lokar (or similar) cable set up to shift the tranny. So the tranny's shift lever is more 12:00 ish for a column shift and 6:00 ish for a floor shift. This makes up for the shift rod coming from two different directions. Like in a Car with a floor shift. No trucks back then came with a factory A/T floor shifter. What you have I dunno. You have not posted pics.
