Linkage

My steering column pops out of park very easy. Sometimes the slightest bump on the shift selector arm moves it out of gear. Any ideas?
Also the linkage between my column to the C6 transmission hits the exhaust pipe preventing it from shifting to lower drive gears (D1, D2). Is it possible i have the wrong linkage arm or exhaust pipes installed? Ive only had the truck 4 months and not sure what types of "modifications" were made. Any ideas, suggestions or thoughts. Thank you

J, Does your truck have a V8 or I6? When you say D1 & D2 does it also have a green dot on a clear column indicator? When trucks are nearly 50 years old all kinds of things can have been applied.

Popping out of park; my son's 66 was doing this also. We did replace to shift collar on the column and I do not remember if we had to replace any thing else in there. We got the collar for LMC. You did say C6; that was not the OEM trans for these trucks; the C-O-M was, so the shift pattern is a bit different. The C-O-M trans had the P R N D1 D2 L pattern and the C6 was P R N D 2 1. Trans are also different sizes; so that may be why the shifter is hitting on your pipes.

C6 (17 trans pan bolt holes) not available until 1968 F100/350 360/390, so if your 1966 has it, it's been swapped in.

If your 1966 came w/a 352...originally it had MX Cruise-O-Matic (14 trans pan bolt holes).

1965/66 F100/250 with C4 (240/300) & MX Cruise-O-Matic (352) came with a green dot shift indicator dial: P R N O-o L (C5TZ-7B033-A).

But the thing is, it's not reproduced, no one has any NOS .. so what the repro parts vendors are selling is the 1967/72 F100/350 shift dial (C7TZ-7B033-E) that is P R N D 2 1

The A/T shift collar is the same 1965/77 F100/350 & 1973/77 Bronco...and...it's available from Ford.
