Exclamation 2001 Sport trac Overheating

Yesterday my air conditioning quit blowing cold and my engine got hot. Was able to keep the check engine light from coming on by turning my heat on and limping it down the road another couple miles. I let it sit overnight and ran it a few miles today and it did not overheat.

I'm thinking my thermostat is sticking. Any other idea's?

Thanks Jmac-1
