Idle Temp?

I installed new temp and oil sensors in my new to me 84 F350 with a 351w. Both read right on the upper line of the normal range so I'm installing mechanical gauges. Haven't done the oil yet but the temp is reading between 195 and 200 at idle. If I rev it for a minute, it drops closer to 185.

Is high 190's normal at idle. Has a new stock temp thermostat. The 300 in my Bronco idles closer to 180.

Your thermostat is rated for 192-195 correct? It should hold the temperature somewhere in that neighborhood. If you have a oversized radiator and it's a cool day, it can drop below and the thermostat will close some till it warms back up to the 190-205 range again. Pulling a heavy load up a mountain on a hot day will be one of the worst case conditions, expect the temps to approach 225-230.

Thanks, that's what I figured. I assume it's a 192 but frankly, I didn't ask.
