Engine Temp

On my 96 PSD the temp gauge only gets to the very first mark above the "C" and the heat is warm not hot at full operating temp. Is this normal for the diesel or should i try a higher temp thermostat? Thanks

yeah thats normal on theese trucks i have changed to a 203 degree tstat and the fuel mileage went up a little. theres a special tstat for the trucks dieselsite has them. it needs to be a long stem 203 the short stem wont work correctly.

I posted a very similiar question earlier today in the truck section. I just bought a 1995 powerstroke F250 and it takes forever to warm up, and never gets over 180 degrees. I thought maybe mine didn't have a thermostat or something. I am used to my ford 302's that always heat up too much too fast!
Also, when I start mine in the morning the engine runs a little rough at 600rpm. Is this typical, isn't there supposed to be a high warmup idle?
Thanks for any advice given. - Peter

You need a thermostat. It should warm up fully within 10 miles max.
