Can you replace the transmission cooler hard lines on a 2wd f250 without removing exhaust? I have Hedman long tubes. At a glance it seems like there is no way to do that and I might be ahead mounting a cooler on the frame rail with a thermostat.
I replaced mine with everything installed. I don't have headers though.
Using what was left of the originals as a pattern, I pre-bent the new lines up to the front of the engine then "screwed" them into place around the exhaust and frame. Once I saw they'd fit at the transmission, I pulled them forward enough I could make the rest of the bends to reach the cooled mounted in the upper left corner of the radiator opening.
It took some some time and figuring but it was doable. Would have been way easier to use stainless braided tubing but I prefer the look of hard lines.
Did my son's 75 F100 with long tubes . Did it with them on so you know the best routing. Use wire hangers to do a mock up. Use quality hard-line, use the HF small and large tubing benders to get nice tight radiuses and a quality double flaring tool. Used the mustang hard-line metal clips to hold everything together. Looks factory too.
I just did mine when I installed a secondary trans cooler with headers and a C-6 (assume you can search for the thread & photos...).
I used a tape measure to estimate the length of tube I needed, measured the first bend (trans to frame rail), then did all other bending with the tube attached to the trans. I hope yours went as easy as mine; hardest part of the whole thing was getting the !@#*()&! flange nut to bite into the transmission .
Depending on the $$ being spent on the build, if you can afford SS braided an AN- fittings it is that much easier. You use AN- fittings on the housing that has a male end so starting is never an issue. my 74 Bronco has all SS thru, my new DD build uses hard-line no issues, remember to pull you carpet and remove the tunnel cover, makes doing the hard-line and install, much easier.
After studying things a bit -- it seems to me that going up the frame rail would be a much easier job and could even look better. It would also get the lines away from the headers further.
There are all sorts of transmission oil coolers which can be mounted on the frame parallel with the transmission. Some are passive while others include electric fans for extreme duty. The plumbing for these is much shorter and simpler.
Something to consider.
