Hey guys, I'm from the 48-56 thread. Got a 351w and c6 out of a 74 ford. Getting ready to start cooler lines from scratch. Want to get as much info as possible before i start. i.e., 3/8 steel line, braided hose, AN fittings, double flared tubing, where to mount lines, etc.... and so on... Any pics would be awesome. Was gonna run the lines to the radiator for now, unless its a better idea to get a tranny cooler separate...
I am assuming you aren't going to pull or haul anything heavy with your 55. Not putting it down, just that 55's are usually built to look bad-azz not pull a 4 horse trailor. So I wouldn't mount a tranny cooler. If for some reason I did, I would mount a bracket mount style one. Not one that is mounted against the radiator with those d*m* through the radiator zip retainers. My 460/C6 combo has a bracket that's bolted to one of the engine's oil pan bolts. This bracket supports and retains both lines. Lines go straight from this bracket to the radiator's tranny cooler.
Going to tune into this as well as I need to locate new trans cooling line to radiator fittings
I am assuming you mean the male/male fittings that screw in to the radiator's trans cooler. The Ford one's are metal. But you can buy them brass at a parts store. They are 1/2"-20 X 1/8"-27.

Thank you! I'll try and get some. Really I only need the 5/8" that the line goes into first, but new everything will be good too. My boss keeps trying to convince me to get barb fittings and run hoses instead of steel lines, but I don't see the benifit of that and I want to replace the metal line (I broke a rusted area). When I do that I'll paint them for better weather protection.
Well, I found the fittings that will connect my 3/8" steel line into the radiator. Now I'm searching for a fitting reducer that will allow me to connect my 3/8" steel line(not sure size of fitting, i think its 1/2") into the transmission. The problem is the transmission has a fitting thats 1/8" npt to 5/16". Too many darn numbers..... I ordered these, but now I think they're not gonna work..
