05-07 headlights will retro-fit into the 99-04 Superduty and X. It takes a few minutes with a dremel. Just some judicious cutting of the header panel.
then you only need to adapt your 99-04 light harness to a 05-07 harness and use the correct bulb. Autozone sells the adapter if you want to purchase. plenty to choose from on eBay as well
Some sellers on Amazon and eBay now offer a 99-04 headlight that looks externally like a 05-07 light, but bolts up with zero modifications. they are however aftermarket, so I'm not really a fan
personally, I like the 05-07 lights that are factory. I then cut them open and make them a Harley myself. Pretty easy, and if you take your time the quality is excellent.
many aftermarket lights are poorly sealed. invariably you'll get moisture in them and the subsequent fogging. If you buy aftermarket, I highly recommend taking a outdoor grade silicone (stays pliant) and sealing them.
I swapped over to the 2005-2007 XL Superduty glass sealed beams. Now I can put in almost any headlight I want to.
LED, HID, Halogen...
There are many quality, DOT certified aftermarket replacements for the 6054 sealed beams because they're used in fleet vehicles like Heavy Trucks, Panel Vans, Busses, etc.
Has anyone gone from the aero to the XL style sealed beam? My lights are cloudy on the 2000 Ex and I need to replace them in the near future. I like the idea of swapping to the composite- different look, but I care more about functionality. Being able to run glass sealed beams or upgrades to H4. Etc, with a glass in front instead of plastic to fog up sounds appealing to me.

I am interested in this as well. My neighbor has an XL work truck, thought I might be able to talk him into swapping headlights with me. When I bought my Excursion, it came with those crappy halo ringed HIDs with high and lows beams. They really suck *****. I don't like them one bit. Anytime you change low to high beams or back, the lights take a few seconds to warm up. Tough to drive in darkness at 70 mph for 10 seconds. I have 4 Hella H4 conversion lamp housings, would like to install those.
