97 cclbdrw zf5 - my truck has failed to start/turn over a few times now without attempting to push the clutch in multiple times or very hard. I am assuming this is the neutral safety switch causing me issues. Is there an easy way to disable this before I replace it so I don't get stranded and/or does anyone have anything else I should check?
sounds like the clutch pedal bushing is wearing out and needs replacing. this will cause the clutch interrupter switch to no work unless you really stomp on the pedal.
i would fix it instead of bypassing the switch, because the next step is the clutch not completely disengaging.
^^^^^ This may already be happening. Either the bushing at the pushrod or the pedal box bushings, or poss. both. This can cause a bit of clutch engagement that may not be noticed by the vehicle moving, but can still cause added wear. Esp. if the problem has manifested by it taking more and more pedal effort to get the switch to engage, that's a sign of wear, rather than of a bad switch.
To the OP, if you were searching on "neutral safety", that's why you didn't find anything. Switch has nothing to do with being in neutral; a search on "clutch safety switch" or "clutch start switch" should turn up results.
Brake pedal has sone movement with the clutch pedal - looks like bushings for me - thanks for the help guys - I'll do some searching for bushing and replacment procedure
