Thank you for sharing! I really like staring at your welds. Is that TIG or MIG? Thank you again.

Thank you. I use a Lincoln 175 (older model) 180hd I believe is what replaced it. Like $600 at home Depot. .035 hard wire with 75/25 welding gas wired for 220v. Runs great!

A little more progress on the front suspension install. Next is the brackets for the lower control arms. Then sway bar mounted. Steering will have to wait until I get a tilt column.

As I'm working on this swap I'm thinking about some easier solutions to do this swap. Started drawing up some parts to simplify things a little. More or less just messing with my cad to keep up the skill.

CV IFS Locator Pins

I'm curious as to how you made use of the CV IFS locator pins pictured here:

They fit nicely. How did you determine where these holes should be?

BTW, that frame boxing is quite elegant.

Thanks, the centering pins on the cv suspension locate centerline for the "axle". So when I started to demo the twin I beam setup, I cut the springs first and raised the beams up to original ride height with a jack, and marked the centerline on the frame. After that I transferred the line top to bottom. Checked and triple checked measurements. laid out the width of the pins and transferred them to the bottom of the frame. Used a center punch to mark where to start drilling. Measured again, and started with a 1/8" drill bit and worked up to 11/16". Fit was spot on.

I have seen other peoples installs and I've seen a couple of different locations they used (some very about 1/4" either way). I decided to go with my own measurements. Its square, I know that much for sure.

I’m curious if you documented the measurements for these different mounting locations?? I’m getting ready to start a 79 and you seem to be spot on with this install. This will be an awesome truck. Your work looks great. Cool ideas. Thanks

Ok so a little progress. I'm mocking up some air bag mounts for this crown Vic front suspension. I pulled the strut out and disassembled it. (if you do this make sure you have strut compressor tools, they are under extreme spring tension.) But I cut the lower bushing off and also wanted to use the upper mounting plate.

Using my torch I cut two 4.5" round plates for mounting to the bags and drilled the necessary mounting holes and welded tube ends top and bottom to basically make a air bag mounts where the factory strut used to be. These parts are only currently tack welded in place and are really only for mock up purpose. The lower mount is pretty good but I'm going to do something a little different for the top. Here are a few pictures.

What engine-transmission are you considering with this CV swap?
