An awesome build for sure. Like many others, I am interested in how you shortened the bed itself. Will the wheelbase be the same as a stock shortie or different? How did you decide where to cut? Are there many options to choose from or is there a one best way? Stuff like that.
I did some research and found out what the wheelbase is for a 77 short bed compared to the long bed and the difference ended up being 16". Deciding where to cut I had to factor in a couple things. Fuel door on driver's side, and bed web on the floor. I took a lot of measurements and marked several times with a sharpie. Then used 2" mask tape to layout where to cut. I used a 6" cut off wheel on my grinder. It made quick work of it. I believe to make it a true "short bed" I would have to take 4" out of the back. But I don't plan too. Hence the name "shlong bed" I am working on cutting out the floor and tubs. I plan to do a raised floor.
To line everything up I used these body panel clamps. You can get them from Eastwood or harbor freight and they are pretty inexpensive from either place. These things are awesome. To weld the panel back together I used .023 wire in my welder and moved around quite a bit to keep heat down and from warping the steel.
I could be wrong, but I don't think there is any difference in the length of the bed behind the rear wheel. I have both a short and long bed .. I'll go measure now and report back.
**Yeah, the quarter panel behind the rear wheel is identical on both long and short beds. All additional length is between the bed and cab. Along the bottom body line, the short bed is 23", the long bed is 39" ... 16" total difference.

Well 💩! Lol like I said. First ford truck noob here. Haha. I guess I'm just made a short bed. Thanks for the info. I had nothing to compare to.
I have seen a lot of lowered trucks with raised bed floors and to be honest, maybe two did it right. Some were complete hack jobs. Think of a solid plan and then sleep on it. Patience is virtue, especially with a build like this. Awesome job so far.
