I have a odd problem on my brother in law truck It will not park the wipers are on all the time and there is no intermittent functions they work in slow and high so I though it was the contacts inside the motor so we replaced it and Guess what the same thing happens is there a way I can test it by jumping it and make sure the motor is out of the question so I can figure out was causing this need to get inspected.
Try changing the wiper relay,,,,if you do not have the relay you might be able to swap it with horn relay or another that is not in use just to see if it fixes the problem
K. I printed this picture out and took the wiper switch out now when you say closed position you should see itself on a OHMN meter another words 0.2 just like touching the to ends together of the meter leads right because that's not what's happening any of the test procedures. So this is also an interest kicker to just for laughs and grins I hooked the wiper motor back up with the wiper switch disconnected and turned on the ignitions switch and the wiper are still going how's that possible with out a signal to tell it to go so now I'm back to a bad motor or what's telling to continue to run.
Yeah, when you touch the meter leads together that is a closed circuit.
There's only 3 things in the wiper circuit
Switch
motor
interval governor
Since nothing changes when you turn the key on with the switch disconnected, it looks like interval governor is the problem
Strange that your test results are nothing like in the link i gave you. This truck is a 1988 Ranger correct?
it's really a 87 model but I didn't think it would be that much difference.. okay I thought i might have been reading the picture wrong when it says closed positions I'm think the contact are made ...
Ya just for kicks I hooked the wiper motor back up and turn the ignition on and the wiper started going and i was beside myself holding the switch in my hand watching it go. i know this is real dump question where is the internal governor.. Please don't says inside motor because if I have to take that motor out again I may throw it at the person behind the Orielly's counter because that was a rebuilt one and the THING THAT PISSES ME OFF THE MOST IS THE DUMB ASSES THAT REBUILT IT CUT THE PLUG OFF THE SO I HAD TO SPLICE THEM to the old plug all of this would have been avoided if I could have just plugged in and checked it before i installed it
87 & 88 are wired exactly the same so no problem there
Like I said it looks like the interval governor is the problem. The manual shows it's located "Under the instrument panel on cowl side above the parking brake pedal."
It has a 9 wire connector plugged into it.
