Issues:
- When I turn off the wiper switch the wipers immediately stop in place, they do not continue to their normal 'down' position.
- The switch's adjuster to slow the wipers isn't working, only the low and high settings work.
What I've done so far:
- Replaced wiper switch with used from spare parts.
- Replaced wiper switch with new from spare parts.
- Replaced wiper motor with remanufactured from Autozone.
- Thoroughly cleaned wiper motor ground terminals.
- Replaced interval wiper governor with used from spare parts.
The problem occurred after the truck sat in my garage for 6 months while I removed and reinstalled the engine to replace some gaskets & seals.
If you PM me with your email address i can scan and email the "park circuit test" from the 87 factory manual, should be the same as your 88
BTW i'm having problems with this site on my PC i keep getting some sort of warning & the PC wants to shut down so i'm typing this on my tablet. I wonder if you or anyone else reading this are having problems?
Good insight to try a park test. I did and the wipers do not park but instead run continuously which seems to indicate a bad wiper motor. Also there's continuity between the red and black wires and shouldn't be (my 94's working wiper motor has no continuity there). I'll switch it out tonight and post back if it doesn't fix the problem. Otherwise thanks for the help.

Yeah, it does sound like a bad wiper motor, strange the reman motor did'nt fix it.
Good luck with it & i guess i need to get my PC looked at.
One thing to note is that the 'intermittent' feature uses the 'park' mechanism and wiring to give the wipers the 'sweep' after it provides power to get the wiper motor off 'park' position. If the wipers won't park by them self, there's a problem internal to the wiper gearbox/electrics. The circuit is sort of 'keep power to the motor until it gets the wiper drive arm to THIS spot, then break power'. Imagine a circle of copper, with a break somewhere around the diameter. It will power all the way around until it gets to the break, then stop. If you 'jumper' the motor to get it off the break in the circle, it will get power from the circle until it gets to the break again. That, more or less, is how the park and intermittent functions work. Lesson over..

Thanks Tom, that helps my understanding. It is fixed now and ended up of all things being the connector between the wiper motor and harness. The wires as they connected to it were badly corroded. I wish I had checked that first instead of taking the whole system apart, including part of the dash, but as always I understand the system much better having done all that.
