Hello, I'm trying to get some good pointers on the 6.0 powerstroke. I've never owned a diesel and need some good input. I'm looking into an 06 king ranch and have been trying to do some research on this engine. I know by now much of this topic has that horse beaten. . .all I'm wanting is some good things to look out for. It seems like a scanner is great tool to have. The truck has 160k on it and is bone stock. The owner (my inlaws know him/trust his word) has had it in the family from the beginning and they've not had any of the issues that seem to surround the 6.0's.
From what I can tell routine maintenance is gold. It also seems like certain coolants is also a key factor. Any input on good key maintenance, filters, driving etiquette etc would be appreciated. Pretty much any of your experience would help lol.
Im in MD, I'm trying to read up as much as i can. The bad stories of these engines are whats sticking out but I'm trying to get as much knowledge as I can before I buy it.
If you are handy and are willing to dedicate time to the truck then go into it knowing it requires ALOT of upkeep initially if the important things haven't been done.
If you normally pay someone to work on your vehicles then leave it stock.........or it will empty your wallet fast.
Definitely read the tech folder
Good Luck

A horribly maintained stock truck will empty your wallet just as fast. Buy one AFTER you have researched and then tested everything you learned on a truck... Buy the one that passed the tests AND. Then expect to spend money to get it there or keep it there!
If you don't pull wrenches, drink and say bad words... move along to a gas truck. If you like fixing your stuff, make nunn's blush and can hold your own... welcome aboard!
Thanks guys. I've been doing as much research as I can. So far everything has gone well. I read the check list on the 6.0 sticky. He's agreed to get it MD inspected and allow a mechanic to check it over. I'll be using a mechanic my friend uses for his diesel.
MAKE SURE he checks the stuff a 6.0 needs checked and just being a diesel mechanic may not qualify him as a 6.0 mechanic. There are horror stories about these guys.
