My battery starts draining after about 1 hr of driving. The vehicle still drives good until it gets down to red, then it starts sputtering like it has no power. The radio still works also, the only thing I notice is the brakes warning light on the dash come on
I replaced Battery, terminal connectors, and also had the alt checked (by auto chain) and it passed. I have no clue what is going on here.
Anyone with insights that could give some advice on what to check next would be appreciated.
Measure battery voltage at the posts with engine at around 1500 to 2000 RPM, with all accessories and lights operating to load up the alternator. Want to see something like 13.8 to 14.2 volts depending on temperature. Colder temps need more juice to charge.
Use common sense.
Is the charge light on at the dash?
If yes the alternator is not out putting.
If no, the alternator output is not getting through the mega fuse and cable to the battery.
No more complicated than that.
Which condition do you have?
Find out before replacing parts.
Make the voltage checks.
Check tightness at the megafuse location.
Check the plug/connections at the alternator for bent over blade etc.
Check the field fuse for the alternator.
Good luck.
I have had parts houses gives false positives before. without seeing the vehicle , I would say u still have a bad alternator. could be a bad connection too, again i am not in front of your vehicle.
