Exhaust / Cat

Neighbors 2002 5.4 Ex 4x2 with 440,000
Has clogged Catalytic Converter.
Can this be removed and straight pipe put in? Are there any emissions issues doing this? We live in SC where there are no emission checks

If it can't be removed, would it be easier/cheaper just to buy a new aftermarket exhaust? Thanks

They used to be called Cat Test Pipes...

You can buy fairly cheelpy an aftermarket universal cat with correct adapter kit (WALKER). In some applications, the back pressure of an exhaust system is used for emission parameters to the PCM.
